Our Projects

🪸 RwN Substrate for Coral Restoration

Research on the RwN substrate as a low-cost surface for coral larval settlement. It covers field trials with RwN substrate ropes and plates against a terracotta control, SEM analysis, and results presented at ICRS 2026.

Coral recruits on the RwN substrate in February and October 2023, with no recruits on the terracotta control — Field results, Feb and Oct 2023: coral recruits on the RwN substrate, none on the terracotta control.

🔬 Optical Characterisation of RwN Substrate Tiles

Spectral measurements from 250 to 1800 nm on tiles T1, T2 and T3, looking at what they mean for biofilm formation and coral larval settlement.

🌿 Promotion of Organic Fertilizers with Coral Garden Conservation (CGC)

Organic bio-fertilizer made from beach-cast seaweed and coastal organic waste, treated with RwN’s bacterial inoculant. This includes the “From Sea to Soil” project, planned in Mauritius and possibly in Rodrigues.

🌾 Sustainable Rice Farming with Fujisan Shiraito Farm

This project improves the organic properties of the soil by promoting beneficial bacteria and plant growth-promoting bacteria.

🦐 Sustainable Shrimp Farming

The RwN substrate is used as a biofilter and as shrimp habitat. Results so far are positive: the water is clearer and the shrimp population has increased.
